Why Do I Feel Guilty When I Rest?

You finally sit down.

The jobs are mostly done. Nobody needs anything from you right now.

Yet instead of relaxing, you feel guilty.

A voice in your head tells you there is something more you should be doing.

Many women struggle with this.

They find it easier to care for others than to care for themselves. Easier to keep going than to stop. Easier to be productive than simply to be.

From the outside, this can look like dedication or a strong work ethic.

Internally, however, it often feels very different.

It can feel as though your worth is linked to what you do rather than who you are.

Perhaps you learned that being useful was important. Perhaps praise came through achievement, responsibility or helping others.

If so, resting may not feel restful at all.

It may feel unfamiliar.

The difficulty is that constantly pushing yourself comes at a cost.

Eventually, the body and mind begin asking for something different.

Not more effort.

Not more productivity.

But recovery.

Counselling can help uncover the beliefs that make rest feel uncomfortable and support you in developing a kinder, more balanced relationship with yourself.

Because your value does not depend on how much you achieve in a day.

Your next step

You do not need the right words, you just need to begin

A free consultation is simply a conversation. No commitment.

No expectation. A chance to see whether working together feels right.
