Unthread

There is always more beneath the story.

You don't have to be struggling to want to understand yourself more deeply.

Sometimes there comes a point when you become curious about the things you carry.

The beliefs you've inherited. The roles you've taken on. The expectations you've learned to live by. The experiences that have shaped you. The parts of yourself you may have lost connection with along the way.

Perhaps you're asking:

  • Who am I now?
  • What parts of myself have I lost along the way?
  • What am I ready to understand differently?
  • What do I want to carry forward?

You may not be looking for counselling.

You may simply want somewhere to pause, reflect and explore.

That is where Unthread™ begins.

What is Unthread™?

Unthread™ is a reflective experience for women who are curious about their stories, beliefs, relationships, identity and the things they carry.

It offers space to explore the experiences that have shaped you and consider what you want to understand, acknowledge or carry forward.

Through conversation, creativity, symbolic exercises and gentle reflection, Unthread™ creates opportunities to look at your story from a different perspective.

You don't need to have all the answers.

You simply need to be curious about yourself.

Unthread™ is guided by Jackie Connaughton, a BACP registered counsellor with more than 25 years' experience in trauma-informed practice.

The Story Beneath™

Unthread™ is rooted in The Story Beneath™, the philosophy behind my work.

The Story Beneath begins with a simple question:

"What has shaped me?"

We are all influenced by our experiences, relationships, family, culture, expectations and the roles we learn to take on. Some of those influences are obvious.

Others can remain beneath the surface for years.

Seven Threads. One Self.

Seven dimensions of a life.

One continuous story.

Our lives are not made up of separate pieces. The experiences, relationships, beliefs, strengths and choices that shape us are woven together.

Unthread™ invites you to notice those threads, and to become curious about how they have shaped the person you are today.

Before You · Within You · Becoming · The Continuous Thread

Before You

The threads that shaped you

What came before you? What have you inherited, learned or absorbed through the people, relationships and experiences that shaped your story?

  • Ancestral Courage

What strength arrived before me?

  • Belonging & Heritage

Where do I belong, and what do I belong to?

Within You

The threads you live with now

What happens when the threads of your past meet the person you are today?

  • Emotional Clarity

What have I learned to feel, hold or hide?

  • Somatic Safety

What does my body know?

  • Connection & Relationships

Who am I when I am with others?

Becoming

The threads of possibility

What becomes possible when you begin to see yourself differently?

  • Creativity & Choice

What becomes possible when I choose?

  • Legacy & Release

What am I ready to carry forward?

The Continuous Thread

Bringing the threads together

  • What have I noticed?
  • What makes more sense now?
  • What do I want to honour?
  • What am I ready to loosen?
  • What do I want to carry forward?

Seven threads.

Four movements.

One continuous story.

Not everything handed to you has to be carried forever.

" I don't believe in breaking cycles.

I believe in shifting threads, with awareness, courage and compassion"

Jackie Connaughton

Who is Unthread™ for?

Unthread™ may be for you if you find yourself wondering:

"Who am I now?"

"What parts of myself have I lost along the way?"

"What am I ready to understand differently?"

"What do I want to carry forward?"

It may be particularly meaningful during times of transition, when life is changing, old identities no longer fit, or you feel drawn towards a deeper understanding of yourself.

You might be navigating a change in relationships, family life, work, identity or the stage of life you're entering.

Or perhaps nothing is particularly wrong.

You are simply ready to become more curious about yourself.

The Unthread™ Experiences

Unthread™ can be experienced in different ways, depending on how deeply you want to explore.

Each experience offers a different way into the same continuous story.

Colour & Lineage

An introduction to Unthread™

Some of what shapes us arrives before we have words for it.

Through family, relationships, experience and the ways people before us have lived, loved, coped and carried on.

Colour & Lineage is an invitation to become curious about those threads.

Through colour, natural materials, conversation and creative reflection, you will begin to explore what you may have inherited, what has shaped you, what you recognise in yourself, and what you may choose to carry forward.

You don't need to know what your thread means.

You simply begin by noticing.

Is Unthread™ Counselling?

No.

Unthread™ and counselling are connected through The Story Beneath™ philosophy, but they are different experiences.

Unthread™ is a reflective experience for women who want to explore their stories, beliefs, experiences, identity and the things they carry.

It is not therapy and does not replace counselling.

If you are experiencing significant emotional distress or need therapeutic support, counselling may be the more appropriate place to begin.

If you are looking for space to pause, reflect, explore and become more deeply connected to yourself, Unthread™ may be the place for you.
